EVERT VAN MUYDEN (Swiss / 1853-1922)

Evert Louis van Muyden was born in Albano, Italy, to Swiss parents. His father, the portrait painter Alfred van Muyden, was his first teacher. Evert van Muyden subsequently studied at the Geneva Beaux-Arts, under Karl Steffeck in Berlin, and under Gérôme at the Paris Beaux-Arts. His brother Henry (or Henri) van Muyden was also an artist. Evert van Muyden's first name is variously spelled Evert, Ewert, or Everet.
