LILL TSCHUDI – Betschwanden, 1941
Sheet size: 245x165 mm
Edition: Size of edition unknown; extremely scarce – Unsigned
Original linocut by Lill Tschudi, probably printed by the artist herself. Printed on a cream parchment-like wove paper. One of a series of 32 linocuts created for a portfolio of loose prints, paired with an offprint article from the Jahrbuch des Historischen Vereins des Kantons Glarus for 1941. The offprint is titled Glarner Gemeindewappen, von Ida Tschudi-Schümperlin & Dr. Jakob Winteler-Marty, mitt 32 Linolschnitten von Lill Tschudi nach originalzeichnung von Ida Tschudi-Schümperlin. We assume without any evidence that Lill Tschudi and Ida Tschudi-Schümperlin were sisters. This set of linocuts after drawings by Ida of the municipal coats-of-arms of Glarus seems to be exceedingly rare; how many copies were made is not stated, but it cannot have been a large number. None of the images is signed, and it seems likely that no signed copies exist. Condition: Fine.
