VICTOR EMILE PROUVE (French / 1858-1943)

Victor Émile Prouvé was a painter, designer, and ceramicist, as well as a printmaker. Prouvé was born in Nancy, and died in Sétif in Algeria. A pupil of Devilly and Cabanel, Prouvé became director of the École des Beaux-Arts in Nancy. Prouvé was close to Émile Gallé and Louis Majorelle. and together the three men created the distinctive Art Nouveau decorative style that has been called l'École de Nancy.
