HELEN ALLINGHAM (English /
1848-1926)
Helen Allingham studied art in Birmingham and then at the Royal Academy. Allingham became the most celebrated watercolourist of her day; her paintings of English villages, cottages, and gardens remain as popular as ever. Our print is an original engraving by C. A. Murray after Allingham's celebrated 1882 portrait of Thomas Carlyle, whom she knew through her husband, the poet William Allingham.
