GUSTAVE RICARD (French / 1823-1873)

Louis Gustave Ricard was painter of portraits and still lives. He was born in Marseille. He was a pupil of Aubert at the Marseille Beaux-Arts, before going to Paris at the age of 20 to study in the atelier of Léon Cogniet, and in the galleries of the Louvre. Gustave Ricard took refuge in England during the war of 1870-71, during which time he painted a large number of portraits.
