AUGUSTE HOTIN (French / 1850-1910)

The engraver Auguste-Emmanuel Hotin was born in Dieppe, and was called le Graveur Dieppois. Hotin was crippled as a child (presumably through polio or some similar illness), and could only walk with difficulty, on crutches. This kept him from the mainstream of life, but did not prevent him producing a huge output of etchings, drawings, watercolours, and portraits and landscapes in oil.
