RICHARD RANFT (Swiss / 1862-1931)

Richard Ranft was born at Plainpalais near Geneva. Ranft was taught painting by Gustave Courbet, while Courbet was in exile after the events of the Paris commune. His style, however, is much more profoundly influenced by Toulouse-Lautrec. Most of his prints are etchings, and our beautiful lithograph from L'Estampe Moderne is amazingly the only lithograph Richard Ranft produced.
