MICHEL CAZIN (French / 1869-1917)

Jean-Marie Michel Cazin was the son and pupil of the painter Jean-Charles Cazin. Michel Cazin was a friend of the etcher Alphonse Legros, and through Legros and Fantin-Latour met Édouard Manet. Cazin exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1885, winning an honorable mention in 1888 for drawing and etching anbd an honorable mention for etching at the Exposition Universelle of 1889. Michel Cazin is better remembered today for his ceramics in the Art Nouveau style than for his etchings and paintings. Michel Cazin was killed by a torpedo in WWI.
