LEON CAUVY (French / 1874-1933)

Léon Cauvy was born in Montpellier, and was a pupil of Albert Maignan. He exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1901, and the Salon des Artistes Français from 1906. Cauvy is best remembered today as an Orientalist. Léon Cauvy was the first director of the Villa Abd el Tiff in Algiers, an artistic haven where artists could live for two years at the expense of the state.
