ANDRE DAUCHEZ (French / 1870-1948)

André Dauchez studied printmaking with Gaston Rodriguez; his first prints date from 1887. André Dauchez produced lithographs, etchings, and wood engravings. The Breton landscape was an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Dauchez. As a painter, André Dauchez exhibited with the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts froom 1894, becoming a member of the Society in 1896, its secretary in 1927, and its president in 1938. The artist Lucien Simon was his brother-in-law. Both Simon and Dauchez were members of the Bande Noire led by Charles Cottet. See: Thomé, Graveurs et Lithographes contemporains, 1937; Gobillot, A.
