PAUL CHABAS (French / 1869-1937)

Paul Émile Joseph Chabas was born in Nantes. He studied at the Beaux-Arts under William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury. Paul Chabas specialized in youthful nudes, often in a natural setting. His painting September Morn so enraged Anthony Comstock, head of the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice, that he set it on fire.
