PIETER DUPONT (Dutch / 1870-1911)

The engraver Pieter Dupont was born in Hilversum and studied at the Amsterdam academy of fine art, where he subsequently taught. Pieter Dupont's career was cut tragically short by his early death, but he is remembered as the heir to the Dutch engraving tradition established by Lucas van Leyden. Pieter Dupont also clearly studied the work of Dürer. As a teacher, Pieter Dupont encouraged a revival of engraving.
