CLAUDE OSCAR MONET (French /
1840-1926)
Claude Monet was the leader of the Impressionists, and the movement was named after one of his canvases, Impression: Sunrise. Monet's work is in leading museums all over the world. Monet himself was not a printmaker, but he authorized some interpretative etchings of his work, of which we have two, "Waterloo Bridge, soleil voilé" and "Le Parlement de Londres, soleil couchant". A painting in the same series as this second image, "Le Parlement, effet de brouillard", sold for over $20,000,000 in 2004. We also have a pochoir-coloured lithograph of Monet at work by Raoul Dufy, and photographs of the lily ponds at Giverny by Wilhelm Maywald.
