ARMAND RASSENFOSSE (Belgian /
1862-1934)
André Louis Armand Rassenfosse was born in Liége. He taught himself to draw, and learned the techniques of engraving from an old book. Subsequently he attended the Beaux-Arts, Liége, where he was taught by A. de Witte. At 22 Armand Rassenfosse went to Paris, and there met his fellow countryman Félicien Rops. The two became firm friends, and the influence of Rops can be strongly felt in the art of Armand Rassenfosse. Rops and Rassenfosse even collaborated on prints under the name "Ropsenfosse". Armand Rassenfosse was made director of the Fine Art class at the Académie Royale de Belgique in 1934.
