MARINO MARINI (Italian /
1901-1980)
Marino Marini is perhaps the most important Italian artist of the twentieth century. Born in Pistoia (which now houses one of several museums devoted to his work), he is best-known as a sculptor, although he also made many prints. He won the Grand Prize for sculpture at the Rome Quadrenniale in 1935, and the Grand Prize for sculpture at the Venice Biennale in 1952. Anyone who has stood on the terrace at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice has admired the art of Marino Marini.
