ARMAND POINT (French / 1861-1932)
A contributor to L'Estampe moderne, Armand Point was born in Algeria, moving to Paris in 1888 to become a painter. Torn between the academic art of the Salons and the new art of the Impressionists, Armand Point found a point of agreement between the two in Orientalism, which also chimed with his own upbringing. Attracted by Symbolism, Armand Point exhibited with the Nabis at the first Nabis exhibition. A stay in Italy in 1894 moved Armand Point on from this approach to a kind of pre-Raphaelitism, reflected in our print.
