LOUIS JOHN RHEAD (American / 1857-1926)

Louis John Rhead was one of the most important American Art Nouveau artists, alongside Will Bradley. The art of Louis Rhead was profoundly influenced by that of the French master of Art Nouveau, Eugène Grasset. Louis Rhead was actually born in Etruria, Staffordshire, At the age of 13 he was sent to Paris to study with Gustave Boulanger, and he continued his art studies in England under Edward John Poynter and Alphonse Legros. Louis Rhead moved to the United States in 1883, and became an American citizen.
