JOACHIN FERRER (Cuban/French / 1929-)

Joachin Ferrer was born in Manzanilla, Cuba. He studied at the academies of art in San Alejandro and Havana. After the Cuban revolution, he obtained a government grant to study in Paris, where he settled, becoming a French citizen. Like other Cuban-born artists in France, such as Wifredo Lam and Agustín Fernandez, Joachin Ferrer was naturally drawn to Surrealism. His first solo exhibition in Paris in 1968 was presented by Max Ernst, whose art has had a deep influence on that of Joachin Ferrer.
