GILBERT & GEORGE (British /
1943- and 1942-)
Gilbert and George met as students at the St. Martin's School of Art in 1967. They soon became an inseparable creative team, making their name as performance artists or, in their term, "living sculptures". They are now best-known for their often-provocative large-scale photo-montages. Gilbert was born Gilbert Proesch in the Italian Dolomites; George was born George Passmore in Plymouth, England. See: Farson, Gilbert and George: A Portrait, 2000.
