HENRI LAURENS (French /
1885-1954)
Henri Laurens was born in Paris. His early sculpture was influenced by Rodin, but his close friendship with Georges Braque from 1911 turned him towards Cubism. In 1938 a travelling exhibition of Laurens, Braque and Picasso was shown in Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen. Henri Laurens exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1948 and 1950, and there was a major retrospective at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris in 1951, and another at the Grand Palais in 1969.
