ALFRED MANESSIER (French / 1911-1938)

Alfred Manessier was born in Saint-Ouen; he studied under Roger Bissière at the Académie Ranson. Initially working in a Cubist/Surrealist style, the art and life of Alfred Manessier were transformed by a profound spiritual experience in a monastery in 1943, after which his work was wholly abstract.
