CHARLES LAPICQUE (French /
1898-1988)
Charles Lapicque was born in Theizé (Rhone), He began life as an engineer, but threw up his career in 1928 to devote himself to painting. The Great Crash of 1929 ruined this plan, and Lapicque took a job as a lab technician, which gave him enough money to live on while leaving time for painting; he kept this post until 1943. The work and subject matter of Charles Lapicque ally him with Raoul Dufy. See: Balanci & Blache, Charles Lapicque: Catalogue raisonné de l’oeuvre complet des lithographies, eaux-fortes et gravures, 1981.
