ALFRED RETH (Hungarian/French / 1884-1966)

Alfred Reth was born in Budapest, where he attended the Academy of Art. Reth moved to Paris in 1905, attending the Académie J. E. Blanche, where he met Cezanne. In 1911 Alfred Reth exhibited Cubist works alongside Léger and Delaunay at the Salon des Indépendants. He was friends with Matisse, accompanying him to Morocco in 1911. In the 1930s he was involved with the group Abstraction-Création. There was a retrospective of the art of Alfred Reth at the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, Albi, in 1984.
