ANDRE MIKHAILOVITCH LANSKOY (Russian/French /
1902-1976)
André Lanskoy was born in Moscow, and exiled in 1921, after which he lived in Paris. Lanskoy's Cortège is the only pochoir-illustrated book to rival Matisse’s Jazz as an artistic statement. Just as striking is his vibrantly colourful take on Genesis, in which André Lanskoy's lithographs take their cue from St. John: In the beginning was the Word. See: Drom and Pittiglio, André Lanskoy, 1990.
