ALBION HARRIS BICKNELL (American / 1837-1915)

Albion Harris Bicknell was born in Turner, Maine, in 1837. He moved to Boston to study art at the Lowell Institute around 1855. From 1860-1864, A. H. Bicknell studied at the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris, under Thomas Couture, who also taught Manet, Puvis de Chavannes, and Fantin-Latour. During this time he was influenced by the artists of the Barbizon School. In 1864 Bicknell returned to Boston and established an atelier there. It was after he moved to Malden, Massachusetts in 1875 that Bicknell began printmaking, specialising in both etchings and monotypes. Albion Harris Bicknell died in 1915. Etchings by Albion Harris Bicknell are rare on the market.
