EUGENE BURNAND (Swiss / 1850-1921)

Eugène Burnand was born in Moudon, Switzerland. Famous in his day for his rural and religious pictures, Burnand has slid from view in recent decades, because his work took no account of Impressionism, remaining in the realist mode of the Barbizon School, albeit with a brighter palate. The most recent book on Burnand is Shirley Darlington, Eugène Burnand: In Search of the Swiss Artist, 2016.
