FRANS BOSEN (Dutch / 1891-1949)

The Dutch master of the linocut Frans Bosen was born Franciscus Wilhelmus Josephus Bosen in Amsterdam in 1891. He learned the linocut technique from Jacob Gerard Veldheer in the Graphics Department of the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten. It was as a graphic artist that Frans Bosen made his name, and he is particularly remembered for his striking linocut film posters of the 1920s. Frans Bosen died in Haarlem in 1949.
