VICTOR BRAUNER (Romanian / 1903-1966)

The Romanian Jewish artist Victor Brauner (sometimes spelled Viktor Brauner) was born in Piatra Neamţ, Romania, in 1903. After studying at the National School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, Victor Brauner's art evolved rapidly through Post-Impressionism, Dada, Abstraction, and Expressionism, to find its natural home in the Surrealist movement. From 1925, Brauner spent considerable periods of time in Paris, where for a while he lived in the same building as Giacometti and Tanguy. He died in Paris in 1966/
