ANDRE BLOC (French / 1896-1966)

André Lucien Albert Bloc was born in Algiers, and died in New Delhi. André Bloc was primarily a sculptor, as the sculptural forms in our print suggest. An associate of Le Corbusier, André Bloc founded the journal L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui (Architecture Today) in 1930, and edited it until his death. He followed this with the revue Art d'Aujourd'hui in 1949. André Bloc's closest artistic friendships were with Aimé Del Marle (with whom he founded the group Espace in 1951), Jean Dewasne, Jean Deyrolle, Alberto Magnelli, Serge Poliakoff, and Victor Vasarely.
