GIORGIO DE CHIRICO (Italian / 1888-1978)

Giorgio de Chirico was born in Volos, Greece, in 1888, to Italian parents. He studied at the Athens Polytechnic and at the Munich Academy (where he studied under Max Klinger), before moving to Italy and then from 1911-1915 to Paris, where he associated with Guillaume Apollinaire and Pablo Picasso, and developed the dream-like hyper-realistic style for which he is so well-known, pre-figuring Surrealism. Giorgio de Chirico died in Rome in 1978.
