ENGELIEN REITSMA-VALENCA (Dutch / 1889-1981)

The Dutch artist Engelien Reitsma-Valença was born in Amsterdam in 1889, the daughter of a Jewish diamond-cutter. Engelien Reitsma studied at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, concentrating on the various techniques of graphic art. She is known particularly for small-scale graphic works such as exlibris bookplates and stamps, mostly engraved on copper or wood. Engelien Reitsma-Valença died in Doorn in 1981.
