MANLIO RHO (Italian / 1901-1957)

Manlio Rho is regarded as a crucial figure in the development of abstract art in Italy. Rho turned to abstraction in the late 1920s under the influence of Kandinsky and Malevich. T In the 1930s, together with the architects Giuseppe Terragni, Alberto Sartoris and the painter Mario Radice, he created the astrattisti comaschi, an influential group of artists that later included Aldo Galli, Carla Prina and Carla Badiali. Manlio Rho was one of the signatories of the Futurist manifesto in 1940. Manlio Rho was born in Como in 1901, and died there in 1957.
