PIERRE BALTENSPERGER (Swiss / 1927-1999)

The Swiss artist Pierre Baltensperger was born in Rüschlikon in 1927. Pierre Baltensperger lived and worked in Zurich, where he initially studied as a goldsmith. In 1948 Baltensperger went to Paris to study at the École des Beaux-Arts and at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, in the atelier of André Lhote. From 1949 to 1985 Pierre Baltensperger balanced his artistic career with running his family's jeweller's business on the Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich. Baltensperger was among numerous Swiss artists inspired by Max Hunziker to revive the zinc relief etching technique pioneered by William Blake, known among Hunziker's followers as handätzung. Pierre Baltensperger died in Erlenbach in 1999.
