MARTHA CUNZ (Swiss / 1876-1961)

Martha Cunz was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, in 1876. After studying at various art colleges (including under Luc Oliver Merson and Lucien Simon in Paris), in 1901 she studied lithography and woodcut under Ernst Neumann in Munich. The colour woodcut in the Japanese style was to prove her forte, and the 71 woodcuts she created between 1901 and 1927 are highly sought-after. There is a 1993 catalogue of her graphic work by Daniel Studer.
