C. GOTZ DOHLER (German / 1867-?)

The German graphic artist C. Götz Döhler was born in 1867. Döhler was a contributor to the prestigious Leipzig art revue Zeitschrift für Bildende Kunst. C. Götz Döhler stayed faithful to the Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) aesthetic when all around him were turning to Expressionism. Our single example of Döhler's art, the etching and aquatint Sehnsucht (Longing), dating from 1906, is one of the most perfect summations of Jugendstil we have seen - intricate, brooding, romantic, with a magical transformation between human and natural forms.
