GEORGES DESVALLIERES (French / 1861-1950)

Georges Desvalličres was born in Paris. Desvalličres studied under Gustave Moreau, whose influence is evident in his Symbolist style. Georges Desvalličres was also friendly with Maurice Denis and Georges Rouault, founding with them l'Atelier d'Art Sacré. For some reason - probably an editorial confusion of the artist Georges with his contemporary, the playwright Maurice - the text accompanying our colour lithograph from L'Estampe Moderne names him as Maurice Desvalličres; the lithograph is definitely by Georges Desvalličres.
