ALBERT BRENDEL (German / 1827-1895)

Albert Heinrich Brendel was born in Berlin in 1827. After studying under Wilhelm Krause at the Berlin Academy, Albert Brendel went to Paris where he studied under Thomas Couture and Palizzi. After a further year of studies in Italy, Brendel settled in Paris where he allied himself with the painters of the Barbizon School; his landscapes and animals studies show a distinct Barbizon influence. Albert Brendel returned to Germany in 1865. In 1868 he was elected a member of the Berlin Academy, and in 1875 was appointed professor at the Weimar School of Fine Art.
