BERNARD CATHELIN (French / 1919-2004)

Bernard Cathelin was born in Paris in 1919. After service in WWII Cathelin attended the École des Arts Décoratifs, and also studied in the atelier of Maurice Brianchon. Among his many prizes was the Prix Othon Friesz in 1958; in the same year he had his first solo show in New York, at the David B. Findlay Gallery. Cathelin maintained studios in both Paris and Montéléger (Drôme). He travelled widely, especially to Mexico and Japan, which were both important for his art. Bernard Cathelin created more than 400 lithographs, almost all of them at the atelier of Fernand Mourlot.
