MAURICE DE BECQUE (French / 1878-1928)

Maurice Jaubert de Becque was born in Saumer (Maine-et-Loire), and died in Plougasnou in Brittany. Although he exhibited with the Salon d'Automne, Maurice de Becque made his name as an illustrator of fine books rather than as a fine artist. Rather like his contemporary Sylvain Sauvage, Maurice de Becque provided original etchings for many fine press editions, including a set of risqué etchings for the Pièces Condamnées of Baudelaire under the pseudonym Maurice d'Attys.
