BERNARD RANCILLAC (French / 1931-)

Born in Paris, Bernard Rancillac spent his early childhood in Algeria. From 1959-1962 Rancillac studied engraving at S. W. Hayter's Atelier 17. He was one of the founders of the group Nouvelle figuration. In 1964 with Hervé Télemaque, Gassiot-Talabot, and Foldes, Bernard Rancillac curated the influential group show Mythologies quotidiennes. There was a retrospective exhibition of the art of Bernard Rancillac at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Saint-Étienne in 2003, with a major catalogue by Sarah Wilson, Bernard Rancillac: Rétrospective (1962-2002).
