PIERRE-EUGENE CLAIRIN (French / 1897-1980)

The child of a French father and an American mother, Pierre-Eugène Clairin was educated in England. He was a student of Fernand Cormon at the Beaux-Arts, Paris. In WWI he became a pilot, and was seriously injured. After the war, he worked with Paul Sérusier at l’Académie Ranson, as a result of which he became friendly with Maurice Denis and Edouard Vuillard. Pierre-Eugène Clairin was born in Cambrai, and died in Thorigné-en-Charcy.
