EUGENE ANDRE CHAMPOLLION (French / 1848-1901)

The etcher Eugène André Champollion was born in Embrun, and died in Lettre, both in the Hautes-Alpes. His first intention was to be an architect, but he fell in love with etching and devoted himself to that art. He learned from a manual (the Manuel Roret) but also took advice from Léon Gaucherel. Bénézit dates his first etchings to 1876, but ours were published in 1874, in the journal Paris à l'eau-forte.
