BELA CZOBEL (Hungarian / 1883-1976)

Béla Czóbel was one of the “Eight”, a group of Constructivist painters who first exhibited at the National Salon in Budapest in 1911. This group fell apart, and Czóbel moved on to join the original Fauves, exhibiting at the Salon des Indépendants alongside Matisse, Derain, Braque, Marquet, and Vlaminck.
