FRA ANGELICO (Italian / c.1395-1455)
Fra Angelico was born Guido di Petro; on taking holy orders he took the name Fra Giovanni, and was known as Fra Giovanni da Fiesole. He was nicknamed Angelico for his heavenly talent. Fra Angelico was a monk in the convent of San Marco in Florence, which he decorated with frescoes. He was beatified in 1982 by Pope John Paul II.
