JEAN-BAPTISTE DE ROY (Belgian / 1759-1839)

The painter and etcher Jean-Baptiste de Roy was born in Brussels. His father sent him to Holland, where he essentially taught himself by close study of the seventeenth-century masters such as Paul Potter, Cuyp, Berchem. Our two etchings by Jean-Baptiste de Roy are so closely modelled on Paul Potter that they could just as easily be interpretative etchings after Potter as original works.
