EMILE THYSEBAERT (Belgian /
1873-1962)
Émile Thysebaert was born in Ghent, and died in Anderlecht. On at trip to Paris at he age of 17 he met Rodin and Derain, and was deeply impressed by the work of Toulouse-Lautrec. Thysebaert studied at the Ghent Academy under Louis Tytgat, and in Anvers under Juliaan de Vriendt. There was a retrospective of the art of Émile Thysebaert at the Galerie Abac in Brussels in 1995.
