FRANCOIS COURBOIN (French /
1865-1925)
The painter and printmaker François Courboin was most active as an original artist in the 1880s-1900s, after which he turned his attention increasingly to documenting the history of French printmaking. Among other important works, between 1923 and 1929 Courboin published a massive four-volume Histoire Illustrée de la Gravure en France. François Courboin also illustrated works by Balzac, de Musset, and Gautier with original etchings. Besides our original works by Courboin, we also have interpretative etchings by François Courboin after artists such as Alphonse Legros and de Troy; to view these, enter Courboin in the simple search.
