LUDWIG DETTMANN (German / 1865-1944)

A member of the Berlin Secession, Ludwig Julius Christian Dettmann was born in Adelbye (Flensburg), and died in Berlin. Dettmann studied in Hamburg and at the Berliner Akademie, where he was later appointed as a professor. From 1900-1916 he was director of the Akademie in Königsburg. Along with Max Liebermann and Frtiz Uhde, Ludwig Dettmann was one of the artists who imported the Impressionist aesthetic into German art.
