ANTONIO CASANOVA Y ESTORACH (Spanish / 1847-1896)

Antonio Salvador Casanova y Estorach, who signed himself simply A. Casanova, was born in Tortosa, and died in Paris. He studied under Federico Madrazo, Carlos Rivera, and Claudio Lorenzale at the Barcelona school of fine art. He exhibited in Madrid from 1865, and in Paris from 1876. In Paris he published etchings with Cadart. Casanova's art was strongly influenced by that of Mariano Fortuny. The Victoria & Albert Museum possesses a number of Casanova etchings, including a proof of Andalouses. Etchings by Antonio Casanova almost never come on the market.
