WILLIAM HENRY BARTLETT (English / 1809-1854)

William Henry Bartlett was born in Kentish Town. He is known for his landscapes and topographical views, and remembered specially for his Walks About the City of Jerusalem, published in 1842. He was accompanied on his trip to Palestine by David Roberts. An indefatigable traveller, Bartlett died on a voyage from Malta to Marseille in 1854. Not to be confused with the later landscape painter of the same name (William Henry Bartlett, 1854-1932).
